The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.
Congratulations on your engagement! Weddings are a special and joyful time for brides and grooms, for their families and for the parish community. The Church welcomes its members to celebrate their wedding in the context of our prayer as Christians.
It is the mind of the Church that, as a rule, weddings be celebrated in the parish church of either the Catholic groom or Catholic bride. Exceptions, therefore, are to be made only when just reasons may dictate a celebration in another Catholic Church. The physical aesthetics of one’s parish church, proximity to reception venues, and other material observations should not dictate the request for a wedding celebration at the Cathedral Church.
Weddings may be celebrated by active parishioners of the Cathedral who have been regularly attending Mass and have been registered for at least six months prior to setting their wedding date. Children or grandchildren of currently registered, active members are also welcome to celebrate their wedding at the Cathedral
Weddings at the Cathedral are celebrated on Saturdays at 1:00PM or on Fridays after the last Mass for the Day.
